    Israel-Hamas truce announced - AlJazeera

This peace deal was brokered by Egypt (bangga sikit!) and it will be implemented at 6am (0300 GMT) on Thursday (today).

Ehud Barak, Israel's defence minister, said it was too early to talk about a truce and that details of any deal were still being finalised.

"It's early to herald a ceasefire, and even if it were to happen ... it is difficult to estimate how long it will last.

"The test will be in the implementation, but it is important to give it a chance," Barak said in a speech north of Tel Aviv on Tuesday.

^[ Ehud Barak is eager to show his credibility, since everybody is saying that Olmert is going down. Yeah, Ehud is the one who said that Israel will attack Iran. ]^

Asked what Hamas would do if Israel breaches the truce, Mahmoud al-Zahar, a senior Hamas politician, said: "I don't think that the Israelis now plan to breach the agreement, however, should this take place, we will defend our people."

A second stage would focus on the return of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit and on a deal to reopen the main Rafah crossing into Egypt, they say.

^[ According to the news, Hamas is offering the general's freedom in return to the freedom of about 400 Palestinians held captive in Israel ]^

According to a detailed breakdown released by Hamas, Israel will ease its restrictions on Gaza crossings with Israel on Friday morning, followed by the bigger commercial crossings next week.

^[ let's just hope that there will be a good ending after all this ]^

p/s: there is a video at the end of the BBC report.
